Property Appraiser’s Office Awards Scholarships
Property Appraiser Gary R. Nikolits, CFA, presented $1,000 college scholarships May 9 to five local high school seniors.
The awardees are Jaclyn Karasik from Park Vista High School in Lake Worth. She is going to Duke University in North Carolina. Vanessa Nascimento from Palm Beach Central High in West Palm Beach. She is going to the University of Central Florida in Orlando. Andrea Pena from Suncoast High School in Riviera Beach. She is going to the University of Florida. Gregory Poore from Suncoast High School in Riviera Beach. He is going to Duke University in North Carolina. Herman Powery from Inlet Grove High School in Riviera Beach. He is going to Palm Beach State College in Lake Worth.
An Employee Scholarship Committee selects the winners. This year, 148 students applied for the $1,000 college scholarship. The scholarships are funded by employee donations to Friday Casual Dress Day. With this year’s awards, the Property Appraiser’s Office has awarded $114,000 since 1993. To be eligible for the scholarship, a student must be a resident of Palm Beach County and have a minimum 3.0 GPA. The college or junior college they plan to attend must be accredited.
